NAVBLUE, an Airbus Company, is opening a new position within its Enterprise Hosting Department. 

The main objective of this entity is to define, provide and support the production environments used by all NAVBLUE’s customers.

It is divided into 4 different teams, Hosting Engineering, Hosting Delivery, Hosting Operations and Hosting Security supporting all the topics related to Solutions Hosting within NAVBLUE: from engineering to the monitoring and support of the solution.

NAVBLUE solutions are currently hosted mainly in AWS Cloud using a combination of native AWS cloud solutions and VMware on AWS.

To support the team growth and its new organization, we are looking for a Team Leader for the Hosting Engineering Group.

The position holder will lead the Enterprise Hosting Engineering Entity which goals are to:

  • Define all the standards, policies related to Hosting.
  • Define, Review and Validate the Non-Functional Requirements (NFRs).
  • Coordinate with the Software Factory for current and new solutions/products hosting and architecture.
  • Watch for new technologies and be focused on innovation, improvements and growth of the hosting platform.

The Engineering Group is meant to ensure the long term vision of the hosting, bring innovation when it comes to hosting, ensure the technological watch and ensure Hosting Involvement soon enough in the Architecture/Development process.

The role requires a deep understanding of the hosting technologies and specifically of AWS and a capacity to lead the team, prioritize the activities and perform trade-offs on a daily basis.

Main Responsibilities : 

The Hosting Engineering Lead will have the following responsibilities:

  • Define the priorities of this group in coordination with the different stakeholders: Software Factory (SWF) representatives, Hosting Expert, Ho Enterprise Hosting and the other Leads.
  • Coordinate closely with SWF to ensure the proximity and involvement of the Hosting Engineering Team members next to the Solution Architects (SAs).
  • Manage the Hosting Engineering backlogs - grooming the items with the team, moving the next items To Do and tracking the process.
  • Assign the team members to the different activities if needed (beyond the backlog management when it comes to a bigger project).
  • Optimize the team organization depending on the context (team growth, assignment to the trains
).
  • Ensure the process and standard definition when it comes to Hosting Engineering Practices.
  • Define and review the yearly operational goals of the team members in coordination with the Ho Enterprise Hosting.
  • As a delegate of the Head of Enterprise Hosting, manage the daily management of the team members through regular 1:1.
  • Define the follow-up of the activities (multi-site) and the way to report on it to Ho Enterprise Hosting (dashboards).
  • Animate the Group through daily/weekly meetings.

Beyond these activities, the Engineering Hosting Lead will work as Cloud Specialist sharing the following responsibilities with other the team members:

  • Represent the Hosting Group within SWF and helps to facilitate the transition from development phase to In-Support phase by:
    • Creating/Animating an hosting network with SWF,
    • Representing Hosting Group in the different Trains,
    • Coordinating with Solution Architects (SAs) to support the technical architecture decisions related to Hosting,
    • Supporting SWF for new components onboarding,
    • Coordinate with SWF Systems & Architecture team for future planning,
    • Contribute to Prioritization Reviews (SPR) for the different trains,
    • Guide products in Service Level Objectives (SLO) definitions & monitoring based on Hosting Operations feedbacks,
    • Define, share and broadcast Guidelines and NFR related to: hosting, deployment and monitoring
    • Validate/Review the Non-Functional Requirements (NFR) status once implemented with development - validated by QA
  • Define/Update/Communicate AWS Landing Zone (ALZ) policy
  • Improve Landing Zone, making tools for easier usage within our guidelines
  • DevOps pipelines management: Manage working examples of pipelines used for deployments & actively maintain guidelines.
  • Monitor and report the hosting costs.
  • Define actions for cost optimization and follow it up with involved stakeholders
  • Assist other teams in automating processes for repeatability & quality.
  • Log Management, Centralizing & Retention.
  • Build/Maintain tools to report on NFR, Security, Cost & other compliance.
  • Provide requested information for Request for Proposal.
  • Deployment Tool Management, such as Octopus and Ansible.
  • Enforce limits and standards.
  • Building tools to be used for Configuration Management.
  • Technological watch:
    • Manage Tech Radar (hosting) and investigate new AWS offerings actively - new solutions follow-up and experimentation,
    • Investigate on new technologies to host NAVBLUE’s solution,
    • Research new technologies.
  • OS selection for new standards when older ones are nearing retirement.
  • OS lifecycle Retirement & New OS determination with hardening.

Education :

  • Successful completion of an Academic degree in IT engineering ideally oriented towards system administration, infrastructure and/or networking or 7-10 years of equivalent workplace experience.

Required Skills / Experience :

  • Team leadership:
    • Ability to lead an international team of 5-10 people,
    • Capacity to make trade-offs, prioritize activities, delegate to team members,
    • Defend a position and standards in front of external stakeholders,
    • Capacity to define, organize and deliver a project/activity in the scope of the Group,
    • Excellent communication both internally and externally,
    • Proactive, confident self-starter with effective interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Technical Skills/Experience:
    • Solid experience designing and building secure solutions in AWS (Amazon Web Services) 
    • Extensive experience in systems administration or a combination of software/systems experience  
    • Some experience in scripting and automation 
    • AWS Solution Architect Certification
    • AWS Developer Associate an asset
    • Solid knowledge of Operating Systems & ability to perform troubleshooting required.
    • Extensive knowledge of Cloud Technology concepts & ability to perform complex troubleshooting required: 
      • Experience in managing common AWS services (EC2, RDS, S3, VPC, CloudFormation, Route 53,Lambda, AWS Organization, Config, Cloudtrail and AWS backup etc.)
      • Able to Write and Manage existing Infrastructure as code with languages like Terraform and YAML
      • Solid knowledge of Cloud networking concepts Like Transit Gateway, VPC peering, VPN, VPC endpoints.
    • Solid knowledge of networking for enterprise environments required.
    • Solid knowledge of Virtual Machine concepts and management of infrastructure
    • Demonstrated ability to identify root cause of issues and to recommend permanent, long term, fixes.
    • Demonstrated ability to perform complex troubleshooting in AWS environment and providing guidance to other teams.
  • Other knowledge/skills/demonstrated capabilities:
    • Plan, organize and document complex system design activities
    • Communicate technical/complex information both verbally and in writing
    • Establish and maintain cooperation, understanding, trust and credibility
    • Perform multiple tasks concurrently and respond to emergency situations effectively.
    • Must be able to travel internationally 
    • Effective project management techniques
    • Fluent in spoken and written English
