NAVBLUE team supports Bhutan Airlines to successfully achieve civil aviation approvals for RNP AR APCH operation for Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu, Nepal.
This means that the Airline can fly the RNAV (RNP) – APPROACH RWY – 02 procedure designed by NAVBLUE into the airport. The procedure includes a Radius-to-fix turn in the final approach segment so that operators experience a less steep approach into Tribhuvan, compared with conventional procedures. This leads to a lower risk of unstabilised approaches for airlines flying into Kathmandu.
The project started in October 2018 and NAVBLUE Performance-based Navigation (PBN) experts provided training for all Bhutan Airlines crews. In addition to training, NAVBLUE supported the compilation of the operational approval dossier and coordination with regulatory authorities in both Bhutan and Nepal. NAVBLUE’s N-RAIM prediction service and Navigation Database Validation Service completed the operational approval package and Bhutan Airlines received their operational approval in March 2019.
